Knitted Toques For Children

I have four toques knitted for children. At the moment my goal is to create at least 10 toques for children. Once I have enough children's toques I will donate them to the local hospital where I know that they will be put to good use. I will take a picture of all my children's toques to date and post the photo on my blog.

Sunday March 29, 2015

Today I am still working on knitting a light blue toque. I am taking my time as it is hard on my wrist due to having tendonitis from too much knitting. But I am thankful I can still knit a little bit here and there as long as I don't knit too fast and for long periods of time. I will post photos once my toque is completed. Well I finished the toque in one day

Passion In Textiles

Everyone needs to have a passion. Mine is in textiles.

As a young girl growing up I never actually had a passion. Both of my brothers had creative passions at early ages. But I was the one who struggled to figure out what my creative passion was. I have finally learned what my passion is a few years ago. My passion is being creative in textiles from knitting to crochet to sewing. I like to be creative in textiles as I enjoy creating garments that people can wear. I know that I do have to work on my sewing skills. I am not the best at sewing as of yet but I know that with the right teachers I can build slowly build the sewing skills and eventually start my own textiles business.

Friday March 20, 2015

I have started working on a yellow knitted toque. I started the toque on Wednesday. It is 5 and a half inches at the moment and needs to become 9 inches. The toque uses the knit and purl stich. Once it is completed I will post a picture of the toque.

Update: I almost finished my yellow toque. I am just sewing it together now. Once the toque is finished a photo will be posted.

Wednesday March 18, 2015

Today I went to Salvation Army which is a thrift store that sells second hand items. I bought three packages of yarn so that I can crochet and knit more toques. I will post pictures of the yarn. I also found a sewing machine at Salvation Army which I bought. The sewing machine is a travel size machine and it will be nice to practice on until I can get a decent machine down the road.

Tuesday March 17, 2015

First of all I want to write that today is Saint Patrick's Day so with that in mind I would love to wish everyone all around the globe a very Happy Saint Patrick's Day. Saint Patrick's day for those who might not know is an Irish holiday. So I wish you all have the luck of the Irish. What's more fitting then knitting on a day when you are supposed to wear all green? Nothing! So today I am knitting my final cable knitting toque. The yarn is green and knitting a green toque today makes sense to me. Okay so I have to add some stitches but I think I miscounted. Good thing I realized that now. I have to stop knitting for now and will finish my project later tonight I hope. When I am finished my final cable knitted toque. I will include a photo of the finished toque. But for now here is a picture of the green yarn and needles.

Cable Knitting

A few months ago I learned cable knitting for the first time. Once learning how to cable knitted I started using the cable knit stich in toques. So far I have knitted 7 cable knitted toques and now I am working on my 8th cable knitted toque. My 8th cable knitted toque will be a beautiful green toque. Here is a photo of my toques so far and of the yarn that I will use to make my 8th cable knitted toque.

Losing Stitches

Every individual who crochets or knits, whether a beginner, intermediate or advanced will lose stitches from their work at some point or another. It can be annoying to lose stitches especially if you are almost completed your project. It can also be annoying when you are at the beginning of your project. It happened to me this morning. I picked up my blue shaker toque that I am working on and noticed some stiches had fallen off my circular needles. Although I am annoyed I am at the beginning of my project so I will unravel the yarn which is always a joy to do and start my blue shaker toque from the beginning which starts with casting on 69 stitches.

Knitting A Cardigan

I am knitting my first cardigan. At times I want to rush at my cardigan and have finished in a day but I know that it takes time and I have to be patient and not rush to finish my cardigan as I don't want to make any mistakes. So I knit slowly and try to enjoy the process. My cardigan is going to be a beautiful purple with buttons going up and it will have a round collar. If it fits I will be very pleased, feel accomplished and make more cardigans using the same pattern. My goal is to have my cardigan finished by April the 22nd, 2015 which is a Wednesday.

Tangled Yarn

Don't you just hate it when your yarn becomes tangled? I know I for sure hate it when yarn becomes tangled because it takes a lot of time, work and effort to untangle the yarn. That is what I am having to do at this exact moment. I am having to work at untangling sock yarn. But I will get the job done.

Sunday March 15, 2015

Today I am working on crocheting a new toque. The toque is a beautiful brown color. Yesterday I finished a brown toque and also a black toque. Once I am finished all the toques that I can crochet today I will include pictures of my work. Okay so here is an update. I just finished the third toque. I am now working on a forth toque as I have enough yarn.

Crochet

I like to crochet a lot but at the moment all I can crochet is toques. My toques take less then a day to make. I have created over 50 toques by now. I lost my first batch of toques In Halifax, Nova Scotia in a taxi which was sad but I got over the lost. The new batch of toques that I have I plan on donating to a homeless shelter because I have come to the realization that I want to use my talents in crochet to help others. For myself I want to learn how to crochet new items like dishcloths, slippers and so forth.
